Elden Ring is the front runner for Game of The Year and might possibly make a case for being one of the best games released since Tetris. And no we aren't kidding, this new masterpiece from From Software has some serious legs and is slowly taking over every conversation about what makes a great game, from UX design, to quest logs and the long-debated "easy mode."
So if you don't want spoilers, bow out now, but to me fellow maidenless, let's dig in.

Elden Ring is the first From Software game to truly breakthrough into the mainstream. Yeah Dark Souls is pretty popular, and Bloodborne did well, but Elden Ring has sold more than 10 million copies in its first week. So while the game is still new, expect to see people talking about it for years to come.
And in typical 'souls' fashion, the game begins with an NPC reminding you that you are 'maidenless'. A fact you'll be reminder of time and time again. -

So if you're new to the style of From Software games, then get ready for the ride of a lifetime. And never be afraid to simply just run away if something is too hard, or too scary. -

The Tree Sentinel is the first boss you'll see upon entering Limgrave, just don't think you have to take him on right away. -

Runes are Elden Ring's version of XP, which can be used to buy items and level up, so when you lose them and then die again without reserving them, they are lost forever. So this paints a pretty good picture of how accidentally walking into a boss fight or invasion with a fat coin purse feels. -

And don't forget, the community is pretty top-notch! -

If not now, then when? -

If you are used to being handheld by UX design, and quest maps, then Elden Ring might be outside of your normal comfort zone. But as someone who personally doesn't like being bogged down with cut-scenes and text-heavy and often confusing quest guides, I have found the freedom of the open-world refreshing. -

Hey the point is to not die, so if it works it works. -

Beware of Caelid. Nobody likes Caelid. You will die a painful death in Caelid. 'Hey, Let's go to Caelid." -

It's safe to say that Elden Ring is going to take the Game of the Year award, and rather bold to claim, but it might be the best game I've ever played. I'll let you know in 5-years after I'm done beating it how I really feel. But if you're on the fence about getting it, don't hesitate, and start running! -
